Val Caudalies celebrates more than 20 years of northern winegrowing, innovation and camaraderie in Dunham. The estate spans 45 hectares in a valley that opens onto Mont Pinacle. Since 2005, it has been carried by the same three friends, still here, still involved in the day-to-day life of the vineyard.
The early days
In 2005, three friends in their mid-twenties decided to plant vines and start a vineyard. They bought land in Dunham, in the Eastern Townships, and set out in a field they knew little about at the time.
With no agricultural training, they learned directly in the field: the vines, the seasons, the trials, the harvests.
Twenty years later, they are still here, involved in every stage of the estate, from working the vines to the finished products.
More than twenty years of exploration
Since its beginnings, the vineyard has grown through creation and innovation.
In 2008, Val Caudalies became the first commercial vineyard in Québec to offer a dry white wine made entirely from the Vidal grape.
In 2015, it introduced the first Québec vermouth: the Lab Val Caudalies sweet vermouth. Over the years, many other creations, permanent or limited edition, have joined the range: sparkling wine with watermelon or blackcurrant, sparkling dessert cider, aromatic bitters for cocktails, vin gris, aged fortified wines and ciders, canned wines, ready-to-drinks.
In 2025, the estate launched a new product: the very first pawpaw-flavoured wine in Canada. The pawpaw is a fruit native to North America with exotic notes reminiscent of pineapple, banana, mango and papaya.
Today, some twenty products make up a constantly evolving range, from classic wines to bolder creations.
Grape varieties suited to Québec's climate
The vineyard is planted with hybrid, hardy grape varieties able to express themselves well in our northern climate: Vidal, Geisenheim, Frontenac Blanc, Gris and Noir, Petite Perle, Chambourcin, DeChaunac, Maréchal Foch, Lucy Kuhlmann, and a few others.
These varieties were chosen for their resistance to Québec winters and their ability to produce quality grapes despite sometimes demanding conditions. They define the vineyard’s products and have shaped its identity from the very beginning.
A must-stop in the Eastern Townships
Val Caudalies welcomes tens of thousands of visitors every year and is one of the must-see stops on the Wine Route.
On site, you can taste on the terraces overlooking the valley and Mont Pinacle. You are also welcome to bring your own picnic or simply enjoy a peaceful moment outdoors.
Trails are open for walking through the vineyard and the estate’s natural areas. The boutique lets you discover the vineyard’s products and choose your favourite bottles to take home and/or give to your loved ones.
